Award winning author Craig Romano to give a slide presentation in Colville, September 25, 6:30 PM, at the Rendezvous Theatre

Award winning Washington state author Craig Romano’s latest book titled, Day Hiking Eastern Washington was released this April. As part of a regional book tour, Romano will host a multimedia presentation on September 25 at 6:30 PM in the Rendezvous Theatre at the Colville Community College at 965 So. Elm Street.  This event is co-sponsored by the Colville Chamber of Commerce, Kettle Range Conservation Group, Friends of Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge and the Libraries of Stevens County. Craig Romano co-authored Day Hiking Eastern Washington along with Spokesman-Review Outdoors editor Rich Landers.

Romano notes that “Eastern Washington offers everything from sagebrush grasslands and desertlike expanses to golden woodlands and lush forests, and its attractions range from the very large—the thunderous 186 feet of cascading water at Palouse Falls—to the rather small, such as the rare Okanogan fameflower.” The book details trails in the lofty pine and meadow shrouded Kettle River Range; grizzly bear and caribou inhabited Salmo-Priest Wilderness; bird and wildflower abundant Channeled Scablands; the wild white bluffs of the Hanford Reach National Monument; the lonely elk-riddled Blue Mountains; and the abundant parks and preserves of the Spokane region. Hiking in eastern Washington, Romano writes, “you’ll share the wilderness with elusive lynx, impressive bighorn sheep, cougars, bears, wolves, mountain caribou, and yes, the occasional rattlesnake”.

Close to the population centers of Colville, Republic, Spokane, the Tri-Cities, Walla Walla, and Lewiston-Clarkson, the hikes outlined in the book make ideal day or weekend jaunts for local citizens as well as destinations worth the drive for tourists.
