Dollar Mountain Project – May 2025
Project area comprises approximately 50,783 acres, located in Ferry County, WA. The DN/FONSI authorizes forest vegetation manipulation including logging 35% of the project area: 8,259 acres of commercial logging that broadly includes removal of up to 90% of canopy cover (10% canopy retention), the majority of units defined as Free Selection where what gets cut is determined by the logger who works for the sawmill objectively to achieve single widely spaced trees intermixed with 5 acre clearcuts totaling 2,594 acres; additional 9,744 acres of Non-Commercial treatment units that prescribe cutting trees up to 10” diameter and spaced 30-35 feet that by definition are considered saw logs to local small diameter mills; and, 17,830 acres would undergo prescribed fire, piling, or lop and scatter treatments.
Status: Final EA/draft Decision and FONSI released. KRCG filed Objection. Objection Resolution achieved resolution of some key objection issues. Currently awaiting a formal Forest Service response.
